Mom2.0Summit Tips: Video is Key! If you are a mom who blogs, you need to add video to your media mix
Wish I was there in Houston at the Mom2.0 Summit with all those Fab Moms but glad I'm here...There's so much work to get done for our upcoming launch of MomTV - that I just can't go away and keep up. That's the trouble with being a WAHM I guess.
One really exciting thing to see that on Day 1 - Lisa Stone of Blogher said that Mom Bloggers needed to be adding video with their blogging - vlogging.
We already knew that at NewBaby.com, we've been helping take moms who blog to moms who vlog for a few years now. We have over 100 moms contributing to our site already and hope to have 150 more added by June.
The best reason for this is your community- those who follow you and see your blog will get to really see you and connect. Just like those marketing companies who want to connect with bloggers for product reviews and promotions, your personality shines on video and they stick - we call it being "sticky" in marketing terms.
NewBaby.com gives you the ability to create special playlists for your personal video, your product reviews, your general vlogs and have that player on your site (multiple ones) so visitors and pick a "channel" and watch all videos in one place by having it in your sidebar.
The GoToMom, Kimberley Blaine, is an awesome example of how to share the video blogs you create: http://thegotomom.com/videos.htm. Customize the widget and place it on your page. It doesn't have to have it's own page - you can put it whereever you want.
Here is another example of one of our new vloggers - Sandy from OrganizewithSandy - this is her first vlog - she was a bit nervous but look at the comments, her visitors were very supportive and encouraging. Once you get past the first one... the rest are easy.

Great Blog Reader... but I run out of time to do any blogging myself
The great part of my day is seeing all the mom bloggers who contribute on NewBaby.com via video. I watch all the video blogs, make sure they are categorized and then place them on our video wall and tweet about them to the thousands of tweet friends that follow me and MomTV.
As a WAHM, I really appreciate the creativity, personality, challenges and fun that come through on video... but then I read the post that makes me stop... wipe my eyes and go to the next blog. Both are great mediums and both are eternal. Which is why we spotlight blogs on NewBaby.com as well.
It is an honor for me to be a part of this community and network with such great moms... I wish I could meet you personally but will say that seeing you in video does bring you closer to your audience and really gets them attached to you - like a character on TV.
We are launching MomTV this spring and I invite you to stay tuned or sign up for your MomTV channel. Have some really great things to help promote each Mom and their blogs, revenue and review opportunities as well as networking.
I hope to see you soon and if you want to use video as a medium to blog with - let me know, we are hoping to get 250 (150 more) Moms on video by June.

Marketing to Moms? Read the Digital Mom Report
Razorfish and CafeMom issued a “Digital Mom” report that examines the role of digital technology in modern moms. (Do yourself a favor and click on the download PDF icon to read the report. It’s the second to the last icon in the navigation bar.)
Here is a quick summary to entice you to read the whole thing. Anyone who is trying to market products or services for moms should read this exellent report.

“Social media and text messaging, instant messaging, and gaming, now used by the majority of digital moms, are no longer niche activities.”

“At the same time, moms with children 12 or older are more likely than moms of children under 12 to use gaming and video. Marketers have an opportunity to respond to these trends by acknowledging that a ‘one-size-fits-all’ strategy against moms may not work.”
3.
“Marketers should recognize the dual purposes (communicating with peers and monitoring their kids) moms of older children have for engaging with emerging technologies, particularly social channels. They should learn more about the challenges moms face when embracing technology, and provide them with better resources and information to help them guide their children.”

“Marketers have an opportunity to utilize communications channels like social networking, text messaging and gaming to facilitate conversation among moms and influence decision making.”

“Marketers should consider marketing to mom as both an interconnected woman and a mom, as her interests extend beyond parenting.”
