We will be ringing in the New Year at NewBaby.com with some new groups and more social networking

We have the best group of smart, funny, sassy, hard-working Moms around... In the past few months we have been working on building our Mom Vlogger Group - from the first Vlogging Maven at NewBaby.com the Suburban Diva to the latest group making 63 the current count of Moms who vlog (or are starting) at NewBaby.com.

With more Moms coming to our community to share their thoughts, reviews, home and work business, fitness tips, safety tips, how-to's and so much more, we wanted to make NewBaby.com more "homey" and easier to share what you are doing with more social networking tools.

Yes, that's right, we are adding more goodies to NewBaby.com.

Watch for more from us as we grow... from new partners who host our videos (your vlogs!) to more Moms, more groups, more topics, more social networking to benefit YOU.

Happy New Year... from all of us at NewBaby.com

Weight Loss Success by Mom Blogger Inspires New Online Fitness Group with Members Connecting Via Social Networking in Forums, on Twitter, Blogs, and Vlogs on NewBaby.com

December 30 2008 Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Wii Fit Mommies and NewBaby.com are kicking off the new year using the latest in social networking techniques to help Moms, kids, and families get fit in 2009. Leading the way is Julie Maloney, one of the founders of Wii Fit Mommies, who lost 60 pounds using the Nintendo Wii Fit program.

From blogging about using the Wii Fit program to lose weight, hosting Twitter Parties, to creating a forum for other Moms to join in, the Wii Fit Mommies started a revolution in the fall of 2008. For 2009, Wii Fit Mommies and NewBaby.com have combined forces and have added video blogging, Vlogging, to the mix. NewBaby.com will also showcase Wii Fit Mommies with a special section and a Wii Fit Expert Mom to support this program to promote fitness in families.

On January 3rd 2009, Wii Fit Mommies will host the first event for the year with a Twitter Party online. NewBaby.com will be donating a Flip Video camera for a Mom to record her progress with this program while Nintendo has donated a Wii and Wii Fit console for the kick-off of this program a few weeks ago. This is just one of the events with prizes for participants planned for the New Year.

NewBaby.com is well known as the destination site for Mom Bloggers to create and share their videos. Made up of highly influential Moms Bloggers and parenting experts, the NewBaby Vlogger Network has pioneered the way in which Moms share and connect with each other including outfitting the Wii Fit Mommies with Flip Video cameras to enhance their fitness forum and inspire other Moms and their families get fit.

“With over 8 million children facing obesity in the US, it’s exciting for us to participate and help build on a program like Wii Fit Mommies and Wii Fit Kids,” said Bob Sullivan, co-founder of NewBaby.com. “Our NewBaby.com network will be promoting this and other programs that help families as we strive to be the #1 video resource for Moms from pregnancy to parenting.

NewBaby.com has over 60 Mom Vloggers armed with Flip Cameras chronicling their journey through motherhood and sharing insights on parenting. Featured “Mom Experts” cover topics such as pregnancy, adoption, product reviews, going green, saving money and more.

“We are proud of our growing Mom Vlogger network which continues to add valuable video content that is viewed by thousands of visitors a day online as a parenting resource to learn and share with other Moms,” said Maria Bailey, co-founder of NewBaby.com and author of the new book "Mom 3.0: Marketing with Today's Mothers by Leveraging New Media & Technologies."

Reviewing Products for NewBaby.com

NewBaby.com has rolled out a new product review program. You can participate by joining us as a Mom Vlogger and submit your product review as outlined below and on our site.

We would like to ask that for product reviews you include the following elements in your vlog:
  1. Make sure you have good lighting - dark videos are hard to view
  2. Jot down some notes about the product before you start to vlog about it
  3. Take time to set up the space that you are going to video in so the product is the focus, not the elements around it
  4. When you start your vlog begin with "today we are going to review ...the product name by manufacturer
  5. Talk about what the product does / promises?
  6. Explain how well the product solves the problem / or how it works
  7. Point out unique features of the product in your review
  8. Demonstrate how it works - with your child or for you
  9. Answer: Does the product offer good value? (Would I buy this product?)
  10. End with "Thanks for watching this product review, I;m Sally Sue from www.momisgreatblogging.com. I look forward to seeing you again - or something along those lines.
We would love to have you review the products you select during the month of December and create your vlog submission about the product(s) for the first week of January 2009. Thanks for supporting NewBaby.com and this program! We truly value your opinions and am glad you are part of our growing community.

NewBaby.com is sending out flip camera's to more Mom's to VLOG with

The best part of my day is connecting with other Mom's and seeing what they are up to online. This morning ACowboysWife inspired me to have an egg/bacon/toast breakfast from her Wooden Spoon photos. Warning! Never look at photos of food when you are hungry... fortunately, I had the required ingredients and before you knew it, we were eating that for breakfast. YUM.

NewBaby.com's promotion to give away Flip Video Camera's to a limited number of mom bloggers is also an awesome part of my day as I have shared some of the awesome blogs I have seen with them to review and contact. Anyone can contribute to NewBaby.com and there are a lot of mom bloggers there who have a big following along with adding content to NewBaby.com.

It's a great way to build traffic to your site!

Is it true that pregnancy really lasts 10 months?

(When my OB told me it's not uncommon for pregnancies to last 10 months, is this what he meant?) From SheKnows.com

According to most dating methods, pregnancy lasts approximately 280 days. Lunar months are considered to be roughly 28 days (4 weeks) — and 280 divided by 28 breaks into 10 approximate lunar months.

If you really want to get technical: A sidereal month is 27.32 days, a synodic month is 29.53 days, and an anomalistic month is 27.55 days. See why they decided to round?

Even with “normal” counting methods (”30 days hath September” and all that), every month would need to have 31.111 days for pregnancy to end when precisely 9 months have been completed. That means women usually go into the 10th month — but don’t complete it — during the course of your average, everyday, garden-variety pregnancy.

And if you really want to muddy the waters… If you’re basing your due date on a 28-day menstrual cycle, 14 of those days cover the time from your last period up to conception — so you’re not actually not pregnant at all. That brings the day count of actual gestation down to 266 days.

Partners with Flip Video and Duke Struck, Emmy Award Winning Producer Giving Popular Mom Bloggers the Power of Video

October 22 2008 Ft. Lauderdale, FL. NewBaby.com is pioneering Vlogging with the first-ever Mom Vlogger Network in partnership with Flip Video and Emmy Award winning producer Duke Struck.

Timing could not be better for the NewBaby Vlogger Network with the rise of popularity of online videos. Research conducted by BSM Media, a Marketing-to-Moms firm, points to online video as the next preferred media among Moms. It is no secret that Moms share information with other Moms; in fact, over 80% of moms have viewed at least one online video in the last 7 days, watching up to 11 videos during an online session.

NewBaby.com has teamed up with Flip Video, the line of handheld camcorders that is revolutionizing home videos, and Duke Struck, 14-time Emmy Award winning producer, to give their Mom vloggers the resources and platform to film and share their videos. Made up of highly influential Moms Bloggers and parenting experts, the NewBaby Vlogger Network is pioneering the way in which Moms share and connect with each other.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with such a diverse and respected group of Moms to bring another dimension to NewBaby from sharing tips to capturing significant moments of their child’s growth,” said Bob Sullivan, co-founder of NewBaby.com.

Armed with Flip Cameras, NewBaby’s Vloggers chronicle their journey through motherhood and share insights on parenting. Wendy Stetson, of Babies Gotta Have It provides reviews of baby products while Mom Blog Favorite, Stephanie Precourt of Adventures in Babywearing will be filming installments on welcoming her fourth child. Fifteen NewBaby Vloggers will cover topics from the best positions to burp a baby to pregnancy secrets that your doctor might not tell you.

“Vlogs allow Moms to learn and share with other Moms while they make dinner and answer homework questions,” said Maria Bailey, co-founder of NewBaby.com and author of the new book "Mom 3.0: Marketing with Today's Mothers by Leveraging New Media & Technologies."

From the "Marketing to Moms" blog of Maria Bailey: 15 October 2008

If you've read my blog, heard me on Mom Talk Radio or read one of my articles on Desexualizing Six Year Olds, you know that I've been working on an exciting new project, the Precious Girls ClubTM. It’s a new virtual world website and chapter book series for young girls. Since it’s from Precious Moments®, the site has all the same wholesome values we associate with this trusted brand and those we are trying to instill in our own children like loving, caring and responsibility. These values are reinforced throughout the site in fun and engaging experiences for girls and through a chapter book series and related products that go along with the site. The site just launched and the books are available in stores and online.

I hope you’ll take a minute to explore www.preciousgirlsclub.com and share it with your daughter. Feel free to share the news of Precious Girls Club and the free access code which follows. Let them know that playing on the site is free, but they can also get a free month of premium Rainbow Club membership by entering 8137-KTQ1-NZCG on the web access code page. I think you’ll find this site to be different and refreshing – a place that encourages girls to be girls.

I am very passionate about providing young girls an environment and place to play which is safe and mirrors the values of friendship, caring, loving and more.

Made up of highly influential Moms Bloggers and parenting experts, the NewBaby Vlogger Network is pioneering the way in which Moms share and connect with each other.

“We are so thrilled to be partnering with such a diverse and respected group of Moms to bring another dimension to NewBaby, “said Bob Sullivan, co-founder of NewBaby.com. “Not only are they providing site visitors with invaluable information in an entertaining and accessible format, they are capturing the most joyous and significant moments of their life on film, to be relived for years to come.”

Armed with Flip Cameras, the New Baby Vloggers are chronicling their journeys through motherhood and sharing insights on parenting their babies. Wendy Stetson, of Babies Gotta Have It will be reviewing essential baby products while Mom Blog Favorite, Stephanie Precourt of Adventures in Babywearing will be filming installments on welcoming her fourth child. The 15 New Baby Vloggers will cover topics from the best positions to burp a baby to the pregnancy secrets that your doctor might not tell you.

Timing couldn’t be better for the NewBaby Vlogger Network, as online videos are becoming increasingly popular. Research conducted by BSM Media, a marketing to moms firm in South Florida, points to online video as the next preferred media among Moms. In fact, over 75% of moms have viewed at least one online video in the last 7 days and Moms are watching up to 11 videos during each online session. The NewBaby Vlogging Network is designed to give new and expectant mothers information they crave, in a format that fits into their ever-changing lifestyle.

“Online videos are growing in popularity because they are so adaptable to a Mom’s life”, said Maria Bailey, Co-Founder for NewBaby.com and Author of Mom 3.0: Leveraging Emerging Media and Technology to Market With Moms. “Vlogs allow Moms to learn and share with other Moms- all while stirring macaroni and cheese and answering homework questions!”

Newbaby.com, www.newbaby.com, is an online community where new and expectant moms learn, share, create and store videos- safe, secure and free. Registered Moms can create their own Family Video library, view educational videos by a team of experts or share views with mom produced vides.

Important Safe Sleep Tips

From First Candle:

Providing a safe sleep environment is the single most important step you can take to reduce your baby’s risk of SIDS, suffocation and accidental infant deaths. Take time during your pregnancy to learn all you can about providing a safe sleep environment for your precious bundle!

#1 - Back is best! Placing your baby on his or her back is the only sleep position recommended for babies. Side and stomach positions are not safe alternatives.

#2 - Where should my baby sleep? For at least the first six months, your baby’s crib or other separate sleep surface should be placed in your room, near where you sleep. Research shows that being in close proximity to your baby during sleep can greatly reduce the risk of SIDS.

#3 - The safest sleep area is a crib that meets current safety standards! The mattress should be firm and fit snuggly in the crib. For parents looking for safe alternatives to a crib for their sleeping baby, such as a bassinet, cradle or co-sleeper, click here. Visit www.cpsc.gov or www.jpma.org for crib safety standards.

#4 - What about sharing a sleep surface? Remember, adult beds, sofas and chairs are not safe for sleeping babies and can greatly increase the risk of SIDS, suffocation and accidental infant deaths. Bring baby into your bed to feed and bond, but when its time for sleep, place your baby alongside your bed in his or her own separate, safe sleep area.

#5 - Be wary of soft bedding and blankets! Anything loose, soft or fluffy in your baby’s sleep area can be dangerous. Take care to remove pillows, blankets, sheepskins, bumpers, stuffed toys and other soft objects from your baby’s sleep area when placing them down for nap and nighttime sleeps.

#6 - Keep your baby warm and safe during sleep! Loose blankets in your baby’s sleep area can be dangerous. Consider using a wearable blanket or other type sleeper to keep your baby warm and safe.

#7 - Never put your baby to sleep on top of any soft surface! This includes adult beds, waterbeds, comforters, sheepskins, pillows or cushions.

#8 - Pacifiers can further reduce the risk of SIDS! Experts recommend giving your baby a pacifier every time you place them down to sleep. By following the First Candle Guidelines for Pacifier Use, parents and caregivers can avoid concerns about breastfeeding and long-term dental problems.

#9 - Take care not to overheat your baby with too much clothing or too warm of room! Overheating is a leading risk factor for SIDS. Layer clothing as needed (no blankets!) and keep room temperature at a level that would be comfortable for a lightly clothed adult.

#10 - Educate everyone that cares for your baby about these safe sleep tips!
