Help UNICEF USA, Salma Hayek, & NewBaby.com Get the Word Out to Help the Women of Sierra Leone and other Industrialized Nations

NewBaby.com is excited to help UNICEF USA and Salma Hayek with this wonderful initiative to help women in Sierra Leone and other Industrialized Nations get the needed vaccinations through the purchase of Pampers.

Look for the specially marked boxes of Pampers “One Pack = One Vaccine” which is the special campaign and part of a global initiative with UNICEF to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT). This is a preventable disease that claims the lives of approximately 128,000 infants and 30,000 mothers in less industrialized nations each year – that’s approximately one death every four minutes.

Whether you believe in vaccinations or not, the seriousness of Tetanus in developing countries is an epidemic that needs immediate attention. Most women must give birth at home in unsanitary conditions without access to adequate health care. The result is that this disease infects newborns within days of their exposure to the tetanus bacteria and almost always leads to a swift and painful death.

You Can Help by Simply Purchasing Diapers, Wipes or a Campaign Baby Body Suit
Tetanus is a fatal disease that can be eliminated with a simple vaccine. By simply purchasing something you do anyway – diapers and wipes – you can help wipe out tetanus.

Between now and May 1, 2009, any purchases of the specially-marked packages of Pampers diapers and wipes will trigger one life-saving vaccine* - the more purchased, the more free vaccines.

Actress Salma Hayek, is the program’s global spokesperson, and was recently on a trip to Sierra Leone where she witnessed firsthand the impact of maternal and neonatal tetanus. During her trip with Pampers and UNICEF, Hayek met with local UNICEF representatives and better understood the importance of this campaign while visiting health clinics and traveling to a rural village to observe women receiving tetanus vaccines.
