NewBaby.com adds Autism Expert Cindy Golden as Expert Contributor

Golden’s Programs Help Parents and Teachers Create Inviting Learning Experiences for Children with Autism and Emotional Disorders and as an expert contributor to NewBaby.com will share in video information vital to parents regarding best practices in education of Autistic children.

NewBaby.com, the first video destination site for Moms to create, share, and learn via video from pregnancy through parenting has added Autism Expert Cindy Golden of OMAC Consulting in Atlanta as an expert contributor to their site.

With Autism being listed as the fastest-growing developmental disability in the U.S., affecting 1 in 150 children, NewBaby.com executives began planning the expansion of the video resources available to parents facing an autism spectrum disorder and found the program developed by Special Education Veteran, Cindy Golden, to be valuable for the parents who come to NewBaby.com as a trusted resource.

Cindy Golden, a Special Education Supervisor, has over 26 years in supervising Autism and Emotional/Behavioral Disorders programs. She has 13 years serving in the classroom setting as well as being twice being elected Teacher of the Year. She also has served several years as a Psychologist in a psychoeducational center helping students with severe emotional and behavioral disabilities in addition to Intellectual Disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorders. Ms. Golden’s dedication to the needs of Autistic children in the classroom makes her contribution to NewBaby.com unique.

Cindy graduated from Georgia State University with Masters and Educational Specialist degrees in School Psychology. Her undergraduate degree is in Special Education. Cindy is currently working on her Doctorate and was recently chosen as Doctoral Student of the Year. She is the author of a popular blog: www.omacconsulting.blogspot.com, which focuses on the education and parenting of students with autism. Cindy is a frequent speaker at state and international education conferences, she has published articles with online educational magazines, and she is currently completing a book on autism.

“We are thrilled to be a resource and share valuable insight into what parents should look for in classrooms where their autistic children will be educated,” said Bob Sullivan, CEO of NewBaby.com. “Building awareness and offering expert resources via video such as Cindy Golden along with other experts, who share on NewBaby.com, will help parents who are facing Autism Spectrum Disorders better understand the depth of options they have to help them with the challenges ahead.”

Cindy Golden and her OMAC Consulting Blog provide valuable information to schools and teachers in creating an Autistic Classroom setting. The OMAC system is an organized method of presenting the best practices in managing and organizing an Autism classroom that is structured into six foundational steps. The OMAC structure covers Environmental Organization, Communication Organization, Teaching Organization, Behavioral Organization, Data & Paperwork Organization, and Staff and Home Support Organization, providing an optimal environment for students with Autism.

“I am so excited to be a part of NewBaby.com. It is important that parents become knowledgeable and informed about the Spectrum Disorders in order to intervene early. I’m very happy to educate new parents about autism and to serve as a liaison between parents and the educational system,” Cindy Golden, OMAC Consulting.

NewBaby.com will also be running a public service announcement from the CDC during the month of April to help parents “Learn the Signs. Act Early,” which was launched to educate parents of young children about recognizing the early warning signs of developmental milestones and encourage parents to act early when a delay is suspected. http://www.cdc.gov/actearly

NewBaby.com Partners with Creative Vado as the Official Video Camera for its Mom Video Bloggers (Vloggers) Program

Vado Pocket Video Cams Selected as the Best Option for Moms to Shoot Videos and Easily Post them to NewBaby.com to Share with Friends and Family

March 25, 2009 Ft. Lauderdale, FL. NewBaby.com, well known for establishing the first video destination site for Moms to create, share and learn via video from pregnancy through parenting has selected Creative’s Vado as the official video camera for their Mom Vlogger program.

Many reasons led NewBaby.com to select the Vado Pocket Video Cam, from its small size to its ease of use. Moms really like the high-quality video that it captures and that it can store up to two hours of events, blog material, product reviews, or funny home videos, double the amount of the nearest competitor. Another key reason for the selection is that today’s Moms are more concerned about the environment and look for products that have a rechargeable battery, which makes the Vado a top choice for Moms going green.

Currently, NewBaby.com has more than 100 Mom Vloggers chronicling their journey through motherhood and sharing insights on parenting on the site. Featured “Mom Experts” cover topics such as pregnancy, fitness, adoption, product reviews, going green, saving money, working at home, the Question of the Week, and more.

The unique NewBaby Vlogger Network has pioneered the way in which Moms share and connect with each other by providing video cameras to Mom bloggers and experts to use for contributing to NewBaby.com and then sharing links to the video posts on interactive micro blogging sites like Twitter. The partnership with Creative will enable NewBaby.com to meet its Q2 goal to equip more than 250 Mom Bloggers with video cameras. Creative is also providing special programs for Moms to purchase accessories as part of this arrangement. The Vado and the complete line of accessories can be found at www,amazon.com.

“Our goal starting out was to be a trusted resource and community for Moms to learn and share via video; we then started a program to help Mom bloggers add video by providing them a video camera to grow their capabilities as Digital Moms,” said Bob Sullivan, CEO of NewBaby.com. “We are excited to see how many of these influential Mom bloggers are now using video and our community to share with other Moms, the numbers are growing every day.”

Many Mom bloggers find the NewBaby.com community through networking with other Moms and prefer to use it for their video content as the visitors are Moms, Dads, and Grandparents who come to see family videos, how-to videos, product reviews and more, not the general public where sometimes rude comments are left by users of sites like YouTube.

“We are excited to partner with unique video destination sites like NewBaby.com as the Vado is perfect for the busy Mom to capture moments, ideas, and life as a Mom with a simple click of a button”, said Steve Erickson, VP and General Manager for Audio and Video at Creative. "We are looking forward to seeing more life captured with Vado now that NewBaby.com is our partner.”

Do you give up when you hear "No"?

BACKGROUND
You may know me from NewBaby.com where I am in charge of Marketing Initiatives and Community Development. I am also working on the launch of MomTV in addition to recruiting moms who video blog (vlog) to join NewBaby.com and share their content.

NewBaby.com has been around for about 4 years now and is the largest video blog destination site for parenting out there. NewBaby.com has a Mom Vlogger program where we have purchased 100+ FLIP video cameras to give to Mom Bloggers who want to add video to their blogging.

We try to make it a Win - Win for our Mom Vloggers with the added exposure from NewBaby.com... and then there is the budget dollars to buy more video cameras. We don't just give the camera's out without a commitment from our Mom blogger partner - as it is important to justify this program with content that is uploaded to our site.

For the most part - the Mom's who have received the FLIP video camera from us have become active contributors for which we are excited and grateful for. However, NewBaby.com has footed the bill for these 100 FLIP video cameras that the Mom's tweet and talk about... which is fine but FLIP has gotten lots of FREE PR from this.

Bottom line...

FLIP doesn't give back. As much exposure as they get from NewBaby.com and Mom Bloggers who get these FLIP cameras - they have not given back.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU HEAR NO?
You cannot imagine how shocked I was when I sent in a request of how great our program was going, what awesome Mom Bloggers were doing and how they were getting FREE advertising... and they requested more info. Like how will it benefit them etc... 5 questions.

I spent an hour on a response - articulating the value to their brand, pointing out that Mom's like the WiiMom / CoolMomGuide, Julie, Stephanie from Adventures In Babywearing, Amanda from OhAmanda, and other mom's were getting FLIP video cameras for video blogging, we were supplying cameras for twitter parties and Mom's were talking about the FLIP video camera in their video's.... and then I went into page views and tweets quantifying these views and the value to them from WOM marketing etc.... I was so sure the response would be favorable, that I was in disbelief when I went back into my inbox and found....

A response back in under 60 seconds!

Can you imagine?? It was very frustrating to know that if they truly read what was written, gone to the videos and blogs of these Moms who use FLIP video cameras from NewBaby.com they would have had to take at least 10 minutes to see the value and then make a decision...

60 seconds. How's that for a quick response and "sorry" we can't help you with your program........

Okay - so one door closes... (slam) and another one opens. I did some Google searches, used my trusty www.jigsaw.com account and found some execs at Creative Labs - where the competitive product to the FLIP -the VADO pocket video camera comes from.

I sent my email - detailing what we were doing with Mom Bloggers, how much exposure FLIP was getting and how we wanted to find a partner who wanted to help Mom Bloggers add video with NewBaby.com.... someone who knew the value of Mom Bloggers!

Even though it was late - it was worth it. I received a response from an exec who was very excited about what we were doing and wanted to help support our program - by sending us 150 PINK VADO video cameras.

I don't know about you - but that buys a LOT of loyalty from NewBaby.com and hopefully from the Mom Blogger community.

OH and the Creative Lab Vado Camera is the OFFICIAL VIDEO CAMERA OF NEWBABY.COM.... Thanks Creative Labs!

Now we have the tough job of shipping these awesome cameras out to you Mommy Bloggers!

If you are ready to add video and can commit to uploading video to NewBaby as a regular contributor - please email me at stephanie@newbaby.com or on Twitter @VideoBlogDiva.

Just remember - NO is not the end... just the beginning. It fired me up and for the better - love this new camera.... and you will too!!
